Description:

The ultrasonic and microwave assistive technology is now widely used in the process of analytical chemistry sample pretreatment (digestion, extraction, etc.) and chemosynthesis, the devices or instruments about this assistive technology also are with a large quantity. 

At present, the ultrasonic extraction instrument’s wide use in the lab makes the ultrasonic produced by transducer transfer and act on the sample through medium (water usually), which is an indirect action mode and the acoustic vibration strength is low, to improve the extraction rate, we have to increase the power of ultrasonic generator (≥300W). But large ultrasonic power will make annoying noise.

Microwave assistive technology is to make use of the theory that under the action of microwave electromagnetic field, the molecule’s motion state in the target object changes from thermal motion to quickly alignment with the microwave alternating electromagnetic field, this change transforms the microwave energy to the sample’s internal energy, which accelerated the process that the target object’s solid phase dissolve into the solution phase. The existing microwave digestion or extraction instruments include two patterns: high pressure sealing and normal pressure opening, each one has its own advantage and deficiency. For example, when the sample treatment is processed in sealing extraction reactor, as the high temperature and pressure, the manufacturing materials of the sample vessel requires high strength, sealing and aging resistance, it may also cause change or destruction of the organic components structure of the sample. Besides, the sample treatment capacity is small (about 0.5-5g), a long period of time is needed for cooling and decreasing the pressure after treatment. Comparatively, low temperature normal pressure opening microwave technology does not have high requirement of the material of sample vessel, the treatment capacity also greatly increases, but the treat time is longer and the efficiency decreases.

To overcome the deficiency of above kinds of sample ultrasonic or microwave assistive technology, attempt in combing ultrasonic with microwave was taken, making full use of ultrasonic vibration cavitational effect and microwave’s high energy effect, a new idea of ultrasonic-microwave cooperative sample pretreatment in low temperature and normal pressure is firstly put forward, and a MW-ER-01 ultrasonic-microwave cooperative extractor/reactor is successfully developed.

This instrument ingeniously puts the sample reactor which fixes on an ultrasonic transducer (50W) into an adjustable power microwave radiation cavity, by a series of electronic auto control technology, achieves three different modes of action: direct ultrasonic, opening microwave and cooperative mode.
